Hockey Happenings

Recent hockey happenings:

Saturday played against Wimslow Hockey club, i scored the second goal of the game :)

Had my University of Chester Hockey Club Christmas meal on Monday which was awesome, a free course meal at the Westminister Hotel near Chester train station and a free bar. The meal was £40 so most of us made sure we got our monies worth. It was a fun and drunk night which ended up at Cruise Nightclub.

Wednesday i had the honour of playing for the University Men’s 2nd Team against Warrington Mens Hockey Team, so it was an inter campus battle. The game was awesome we scored 5 goals in the first half, our work rate was phenomenal. Second half was not so good, but we held out for a 5-2 win.

I had a good mention in the after the match as i held the left wing and not one player got past me on that wing. All in all an awesome team performance :)

Holiday and the D word

Well i’ve come to the conclusion i need a Holiday, or at least a proper break away. I had a few days off and that was nice last week. But i could do with a proper break away, currently of thinking of saving up and going out to Australia to see my brother, that would be quite the life time experience, its defiantly on the cards.

But as much as i want a holiday i do have to get on with and start what is starting to become known as the D word, which is my masters dissertation, as im having to work out and pinpoint what i am going to do my dissertation on. My current dissertation is based around “social networking with Sharepoint”. Which i think could be interesting as my line manager has said that it would be good for the University and my Job. As it would be strategic which is nice, also will not have to worry about funding my dissertation as he has said that the department would be able to pay for me to do my dissertation, so that’s awesome.

A Big Update

Well i haven’t blogged for a long time, i just havent had the time of late, also just found it a chore to blog. I have wanted to but found other things to do. I have lots of things going on:

My Masters is going well, though I have kind of realised for my research methods and untimately for my dissertation i had lost my way on why i was doing the idea of social networking, although i was doing an literacy based research idea i have realised this will not be good enough and not as benifical for a good level for my disseration. So i have decided to change my topic and have found a much better topic one which is “social networking with sharepoint” this will allow me to link it too my job which will help me much better.

Working full time, i now am getting much more responsibility within my job as i help look after timetabling services and backup services, and lots of website developments, so very busy at the moment.

Hockey i have been playing lots lately been training more than twice a week at the moment, i am getting very fit, but as a consequence i have picked up quite a few injuries, i have bruised ribs at the moment which i did last week in a game for University,  and i further injured them on Wednesday at a away game at Lancaster University. I enjoyed playing i must admit, but they hurt quite abit so i am not playing on Saturday for club now, don’t want to risk it.

All in all i lead a very busy busy life, but its better to be busy than be bored. :)

Masters Degree in Facebook offered

Students will now be able to take a Masters degree in ‘Social Media’, with the University of Salford insisting that the course can give real-world skills and experience.

Although it should come as little surprise that people will now have the option to have an MA in Facebook and Twitter, the course is apparently aimed to produce the next generation of PRs and marketers.

Course leader Professor Ben Light said: “Social media is often associated with photos and statuses on Facebook,” he said. “But there’s a massive potential for it to bring communities together, whether they’re geographical or online.

To be honest in my opnion it could be percived as just studying Facebook and social media and social networking, but it also could be a huge benifet for businesses in the future if you have employees who have been trained in the use of using social media tools, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace, and other social media websites and tools.
